The Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning will close the Benning Road Access Control Point (ACP) to begin construction on the Benning Road Culvert Replacement Project.
The Benning Road Culvert Replacement Project, scheduled to start March 23, will replace the culverts along Benning Road and allow deep base repairs on both the inbound and outbound lanes. Closure on both lanes are needed to provide the safest option for both the traveling public and the construction workers to complete the work effectively.
The project is expected to close the inbound lanes into Fort Benning for not more than four weeks allowing construction for the culvert replacement project and the trimming and removal of several trees. The outbound lanes into Columbus are expected to close for eight weeks to allow for extensive base repairs and culvert replacement.
Those seeking access to the installation will be required to enter through the I-185 ACP, Harmony Church ACP or Eddie Bridge ACP. Incoming traffic at the I-185 ACP can expect increased delays while work is being constructed. It is recommend to carpool or adjust your schedules to help alleviate traffic during peak hours.
The road will be closed from the ACP to the “Stone Gate”. Those wishing to access the National Infantry Museum will need to do so via South Lumpkin Road. It is also recommended to carpool and allow additional time for travel.
