The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center, normally closed on Mondays, will be open Monday, November 11, for Veterans Day.
Activities scheduled for that day include:
9 a.m. – Appreciating Sacrifice, a 4-hour mini-camp teaching children 5-11 the meaning and importance of Veterans Day and the sacrifices Soldiers make daily. $10 per camper. Call the Education Department at 706-685-5814 to register.
10 a.m. – Paver Dedication Ceremony on Heritage Walk for commemorative pavers installed since Memorial Day. Guest speaker: CSM (Ret) Chris Hardy, former post Command Sergeant Major for the Maneuver Center of Excellence.
10 a.m. – Americans on D-Day – free film in the IMAX Theatre
10 a.m. – 3 p.m. – World War II Company Street open for self-guided tours
11:00 a.m. – Moment of silence observed
11:15 a.m. – Marching Once More – free film in the IMAX Theatre
1:00 p.m. – Local Boy Scouts will conduct an official flag retirement ceremony at the fire pit behind the museum, and Girl Scouts will dedicate a Silver Star Project – a new flag pole at the site of the fire pit.
The museum will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 11. There is no admission fee, however a $5 per person donation is requested. The Fife and Drum restaurant will be open for lunch. IMAX documentaries Jerusalem 3D and Rocky Mountain Express will be shown throughout the afternoon at regular ticket prices.
