The Korean War Memorial is located on the far end of the Corridor of Valor and Sacrifice, just off of Heritage Walk. The memorial features four larger-than-life bronze statues, representing the Soldiers of the Republic of Korea, United States and the United Nations Forces who fought and died in the defense of South Korea against communist aggression during the Korean War.

Memorial Description

The central left statue is Colonel Ralph Puckett, portrayed as a young Lieutenant of the 8th Army Ranger Company, as he was in the Korean War. To the right is General Paik Sun yup, the commander of the Republic of Korea’s 1st Division when the conflict began. These legends are flanked by Soldiers representing our fighting force. On the far left is an American Infantryman, a symbol of all those who fought under the United Nations banner during the Korean War. This Soldier wears his equipment on of top of layers of heavy, cold weather gear to battle the bitter winters on the Korean Peninsula during the war. On the far right is the Korean Augmentee to the US Army also known as a KATUSA. The only known depiction of a KATUSA in the United States, this Soldier symbolizes the still-active partnership between the United States and Republic of Korea.

There are four monolithic granite panels behind the statues. The first three depict the timeline of five phases of the Korean War with accompanying maps. The final panel is inscribed with the service, sacrifice, and alliance forged from the Korean War. More than 17 million American Servicemembers served during the Korean War, with close to 37,000 killed in action, over 92,000 wounded and 3,700 listed as missing in action. Our South Korean allies, in the valiant defense of their country, had casualties consisting of more than 137,000 killed, 450,000 wounded, and over 12,000 captured or missing.
