The Museum Foundation is working alongside the National Infantry Association to ensure that our Georgia-grown Ranger legend is never forgotten. Colonel Ralph Puckett is an integral part of Ranger history; starting with his time as a company commander in the Eighth Army Ranger Company during the Korean War through to his service as the honorary Colonel of the Ranger Regiment. Even after relinquishing his role as the honorary Colonel, Ralph was a frequent visitor to PT events, graduations, and ceremonies for the Regiment. He mentored unit leaders and fostered morale in Soldiers at Ranger School, often telling them “I’ll be at your graduation, you make sure you’re there too!”

The Ranger’s Ranger

Many Soldiers and Veterans have their own Colonel Puckett story because he worked tirelessly in the community. He freely dispensed advice; his words of wisdom and unwavering leadership set an unparalleled standard. We grieve his passing while acknowledging that future generations will not have the honor of directly learning from the “Ranger’s Ranger”. We have the opportunity to ensure that his memory is not forgotten by installing a statue of Colonel Puckett on Hurley Hill, overlooking Victory Pond. A fitting place for his statue, it is the location of Ranger School graduation on Fort Benning. COL Puckett was an exemplary Ranger and man that will continue to inspire future Rangers and their families.

The Foundation and the NIA have been working diligently with a design team and sculptor. The iconic image from COL Puckett’s tenure as the honorary Commander of the Regiment is the inspiration for the statue. His wife, Jeannie, requested that Ralph be portrayed in this way. The panels flanking the statue will depict his lifelong dedication to the Army and Ranger community.
