The board of directors of the National Infantry Museum Foundation has announced the retirement of President and Chief Operating Officer COL (Ret) Greg Camp, and the hiring of his replacement, BG (Ret) Pete Jones. The changes become effective January 10, 2018.
Camp has been with the Foundation for 15 years, as Executive Vice President for the first 13 years, and as President/COO since Ben Williams’ retirement in January 2016. He has been chiefly responsible for the Foundation’s major fund raising efforts. His successes have allowed the Foundation to pay down its construction debt from $27 million when the museum opened in 2009 to about $5 million today.
Calling it “perhaps the best job I’ve ever had,” Camp said he’ll miss the day-to-day interactions with visitors and staff. However, he plans to continue helping raise money for the Foundation on a part-time basis.
“This museum is too close to my heart to give it up entirely,” Camp said. “Working part-time will allow me to stay involved, yet also spend more time with my family.”
Jones retired from the Army at the end of October, closing out a 32-year military career. His final assignment was Commandant of the U.S. Army Infantry School at the Maneuver Center of Excellence. Jones will begin transitioning into the president’s office after Thanksgiving.
“As a Soldier, I’ve been a huge fan of the museum for several years now,” Jones said. “Now, as a veteran, I can be right in the middle of all the exciting things going on there. Plus, it allows me to stay in the community Stephanie and I call home. I can’t think of a better way to start my second career.”
At its November 15 meeting, the board also approved the promotion of Andy Redmond to Executive Vice President. Redmond, a retired Air Force colonel, was hired by the Foundation in spring 2017 as director of programs.
